How Much Does a Vet Visit Cost in Dubai? Consultation, Vaccines, Dental, Emergency and Surgery Cost Factors

Ask what a vet visit costs in Dubai and you will be given a number for the consultation. That number is rarely the thing people are actually worried about.

The consultation fee is the smallest and most predictable part of any vet bill. It buys the examination and the vet’s opinion. What decides the final figure is what that examination finds, and what has to happen next. That is why one visit costs AED 200 and another costs AED 2,000, and why a price list on its own never quite answers the question.

Here is what the main items typically cost across Dubai, and more usefully, what moves them.

One thing to be clear about before the numbers. Every figure on this page is a general market range for veterinary care in Dubai, drawn from published pricing across the city. None of them is Pawsitive’s prices. Pawsitive does not publish a price list, for the same reason no vet can quote properly over the phone. What a visit costs depends on the animal in front of you, and a figure given before anyone has examined your pet is a guess. For a real number, ask the clinic about your pet specifically.

What a consultation actually costs

A standard consultation in Dubai generally falls between AED 100 and AED 300. The range depends on the clinic, its location, and the vet’s experience with your pet.

Specialist appointments sit higher, usually AED 350 to AED 700, for referrals to a cardiologist, dermatologist or oncologist. Most pets never need one.

For that fee, you are buying time and judgement. A physical examination, a history, and an opinion on whether anything further is needed. Quite often nothing is, and the visit ends there.

What actually moves the bill

When a bill climbs, it is usually one of four things doing the work.

Diagnostics. If the examination raises a question the vet cannot answer by looking, the next step is blood work or imaging. Blood panels in Dubai commonly run from AED 150 to AED 400 depending on how much is being tested.

Anaesthesia. Anything requiring a pet to be asleep costs considerably more, because it involves drugs, monitoring equipment and a nurse watching the patient throughout. This is the single biggest step-change in most bills.

Size. A 40-kilogram dog needs more anaesthetic, more medication and more surgical time than a cat. Body weight quietly drives a lot of the difference between two otherwise identical procedures.

Time of day. Out-of-hours costs more, everywhere.

Once you know those four, most price differences between clinics and between visits stop looking mysterious.

What vet care typically costs across Dubai

The figures below are general market ranges for the city, collected from published pricing at various Dubai clinics. They are not Pawsitive’s prices and should not be read as a quote from any single clinic. Individual clinics set their own fees, and what a package includes varies more than the headline figure suggests.

ServiceTypical Dubai Range
Standard consultationAED 100 to 300
Specialist consultationAED 350 to 700

Annual vaccination booster
AED 200 to 400
Wellness checkAED 200 to 500
Blood panelAED 150 to 400

Dental cleaning under anaesthesia
AED 600 to 1,500
Spay or neuterAED 500 to 2,000
Emergency consultationFrom AED 300 to 500
Overnight hospitalisationAED 500 to 1,500 per night

The dental figure is the one that surprises people most. It reads as a cleaning and gets priced like one, but a dental under anaesthesia includes the anaesthetic, monitoring, scaling, polishing, often dental X-rays and sometimes extractions. That is a procedure, not an appointment.

Why emergency care costs more

An emergency consultation usually starts around AED 300 to AED 500, above a routine visit. The reason is availability rather than opportunism. Someone has to be reachable at three in the morning on a Friday, which means staff, cover and equipment held ready whether or not anyone calls.

The consultation is also rarely the whole cost in an emergency. Cases that arrive out of hours tend to need diagnostics quickly, sometimes fluids, sometimes surgery, and often a night of monitoring at AED 500 to AED 1,500. An emergency is where all four cost drivers arrive at once.

Worth knowing before you need it. Save your clinic’s emergency number now rather than searching for it while something is going wrong.

Making the cost more predictable

You cannot control what your pet needs. You can control how much of it arrives as a surprise.
Ask for an estimate in writing before any procedure, and ask specifically what is included. Two quotes for the same operation can look very different simply because one includes pre-anaesthetic blood work, take-home pain relief and a follow-up check while the other prices them separately.

Keep up with routine care. An annual health check and current vaccinations are among the cheapest line items on this page, and they exist to catch things while they are still cheap to treat. Dental disease found early is a cleaning. Found late it is extractions.

Consider insurance if a large unexpected bill would be genuinely difficult. Pet insurance is now available in the UAE, generally around AED 1,200 to AED 4,000 a year depending on cover, breed and your pet’s age. Read what is excluded before you rely on it, particularly around pre-existing conditions.

And if cost is a real constraint, say so. A vet who knows the budget can often stage the work, treating the most urgent thing first rather than presenting one large plan. Speak to your vet about it directly. That conversation is far more common than most owners assume.

Getting a clear number for your pet

Ranges only take you so far, and none of the figures above will match your bill exactly. An accurate number needs someone to look at your pet, because age, weight, health and what is actually wrong all change it.

Pawsitive offers consultations, vaccinations, dental care, diagnostics, surgery and emergency cover across its three Dubai clinics in JLT, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Motor City. Book a consultation or call the nearest branch, and the team can examine your pet, explain what is needed, and give you a clear cost before anything goes ahead.
